Taste of Greenville Avenue, Dallas, October 24, 2009

Posted on September 8, 2009 by brelleva

The Greenville Avenue Restaurant Association has set Saturday October 24 as the date of its first "Taste of Greenville Avenue" event (nicknamed TOGA 2009). This event will be open to the public at no charge and will take place on the grounds of the Vickery Towers at Belmont and Greenville Avenue.

TOGA 2009 is designed in the model of a neighborhood block party, targeted to residents within three miles of Greenville Avenue. By scheduling TOGA 2009 as a daytime event, they hope to see parents and children enjoying our food. They've invited more than 100 restaurants from Greenville Avenue north of Mockingbird Lane, Henderson Avenue, Mockingbird Lane, and Skillman Avenue to participate.

There will be 30 booths presenting the signature items of participating restaurants. Prices would be based on sample portions, there would be minimal food duplication, a kids area, a small (and very controlled) beer garden and public service areas for the City of Dallas Mobile 311 van, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, the Dallas Police Department Neighborhood Policing Unit (Central Division), a pet adoption center, a Dallas Fire/Rescue hook and ladder, etc.

Says Jim Bradberry, President, The Greenville Avenue Restaurant Association, "We're holding TOGA 2009, which we absolutely intend to make an annual event along with other projects like quarterly dine-around’s, to give back something to the community which supports our businesses every day.

"It still amazes me that for nearly 40 years there has never been a restaurant association on Greenville Avenue - we have so much to give to our neighbors, the schools and the community, and all we needed was an outlet for it. GARA serves as that much needed outlet."

The Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival, October 8-11, 2009

Posted on June 15, 2009 by brelleva

The second annual Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival presented by Food & Wine Travel + Leisure magazines takes place October 8-11, 2009 and once again benefits the Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength. Building on the success of the inaugural event held the same weekend in 2008, the 2009 Festival is set to turn up the heat in New York City this Columbus Day weekend.

The Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival presented by Food & Wine and Travel + Leisure magazines began as a one night event, SWEET, in the fall of 2007. In 2008, Festival Founder and Director Lee Brian Schrager of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, launched the inaugural Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival on Columbus Day weekend making SWEET the centerpiece of the Festival. The first annual Festival consisted of over 80 events held throughout the Meatpacking District and beyond. Events ranged from extravagant walk-around tastings like the Burger Bash presented by Blue Moon, SWEET, and the Grand Tasting presented by ShopRite among others, to educational wine and food pairing seminars led by the industry's biggest names, to kids-oriented interactive cooking experiences, to local events incorporating the businesses in the host area, the Meatpacking District.

The Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival is the only festival in New York to bring together both legendary culinary icons from around the globe and America's most beloved television chefs. Mirroring the charitable component of its sister event, the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by Food & Wine magazine, the New York City festival benefits the hunger relief organizations Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength. 100 percent of the net proceeds from the festival directly benefit these community based initiatives.

Taking place primarily in the fashionable Meatpacking District and select landmark settings such as the DUMBO section of Brooklyn, the festival seamlessly integrates into the pace and lifestyle of the city. This year's talents include Rachael Ray, Bobby Flay, Paula Deen, Ming Tsai, Giada De Laurentiis, Tyler Florence, Anthony Bourdain, Alton Brown, Martha Stewart, Tom Colicchio and Guy Fieri, to name just a few.

The Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival is produced by Karlitz & Company and Southern Wine & Spirits of New York, the Exclusive Provider of Wines and Spirits for the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival.
